TRUTHERS
--
Carolrhoda LAB |
Katie Wallace had never given
much thought to 9/11. She’d been only two when terrorists
struck America and the ensuing fifteen years had gradually
relegated the tragic event solely to history books. But when
her father is locked up for claiming to know what really
happened that momentous day, Katie’s life, and connection to
9/11, changes forever. He insists he has evidence on who the
real wrongdoers are, a nightmare conspiracy that will
shatter America’s beliefs. More shocking, he claims that
Katie herself is living proof, a survivor, of that true
story.
To save her father, and discover her own past,
Katie must navigate the clouded and secretive world of ‘The
Truthers.’ A world of fact and fiction, of questions and
distortion. With the help of close friends and new allies,
and as she’s drawn into an ever more-deadly web of lies and
long-hidden events, Katie finds the strength and trust
within herself to face those trying to prevent the truth
from being known.
Exploring the roots of our
conspiracy-theory culture, the controversy of the 9/11 Truth
movement, and the historic records of that fateful day, the
speculative and introspective thriller TRUTHERS invites a
new generation to learn about 9/11 and, also, the high
costs, responsibility, and traps of searching for “truth.” |

"In this intense thriller... Girard takes readers down a
disturbing, provocative path; both sides start to make sense
as information is revealed and theories are debated. It’s a
fast-paced nail-biter with a resourceful heroine, packed
with surprises that force readers to question every
revelation and take nothing at face value."

captivating must-have that will hook readers from beginning

tenacious main character for whom teens can’t help but

caught up in both the conspiracy construct (actual Truther
theories are explored) and the romance that is as tangled as
the web of confusion surrounding September 11."

PROJECT CAIN
--
Simon & Schuster Books
for Young Readers |
Fifteen-year-old Jeff Jacobson had never heard of Jeffrey Dahmer, the infamous serial killer who brutally murdered seventeen people more than twenty years ago.
But Jeff's life changes forever when the man he'd thought was his father hands him a government file telling him he was constructed in a laboratory only seven years ago, part of a top-secret government cloning experiment called 'Project CAIN.' There, he was created entirely from Jeffrey Dahmer's DNA.
There are others like Jeff -- those genetically engineered directly from the most notorious murderers of all time: The Son of Sam, The Boston Strangler, Ted Bundy... even other Jeffrey Dahmer clones.
Some raised, like Jeff, in caring family environments; others within homes that mimicked the horrific early lives of the men they were created from.
When the most dangerous boys are set free by the geneticist who created them, the summer of killing begins. Worse, these same teens now hold a secret weapon even more dangerous than the terrible evil they carry within.
Only Jeff can help track the clones down before it's too late.
But will he catch the 'monsters' before becoming one himself?

"An absolute grabber from the get go. Geoffrey Girard
has taken an outrageous idea and made it utterly
and terrifyingly believable. Fortified by solid
historic and scientific foundations, the story is
as convincing as it is frightening, with enough
twists and surprises to keep even the most jaded
reader captivated."

"Between fact and fiction PROJECT CAIN gives
you a lot to think about. If you want a book that
sucks you into an unhinged conspiracy universe,
this is the book for you. Girard did his
homework... the book is filled with a ridiculous
amount of information on government projects and
serial killers. I quickly attached myself to [Jeff's] character and
felt completely sorry for him. Girard did excellent work making
characters a reader can connect to."
Fantasy Book Review |

"I found myself
thinking about this book even when I was not
reading it... When I first started, I
thought the main point of view was slightly bland,
but the more I got into the character's head, the
more that just became the character's voice and it
ended up really adding to the
story... the author didn't write
for that typical cookie cutter YA reader; instead
he was writing from Jeff's head, like it or not. I
liked it."

Cain's Blood
and Project Cain are two different novels
written about the same fictional event. In both, scientists have
been doing unpleasant things for the military and these unpleasant
things escape. The two books explore the trouble/adventure that
ensues? and simply do so differently. Cain's Blood
follows the story from a dozen viewpoints; mostly from
former-army-Ranger Shawn Castilllo?s narrative Point of View (the
character brought in to fix things), but also via chapters/scenes
from the POV of various killers, military schemers, evil scientists,
and victims. All capturing the big picture as the full horrifying
story unfolds. Project Cain is told from
the POV of one character: Jeff Jacobson, the sixteen-year-old clone
of Jeffrey Dahmer who has recently discovered his true origins and
who is recruited by Castillo into helping, we hope, save the day.
It?s a much more personal story/journey told with the voice and
reflections of a smart, lost and thoughtful teen. A thriller
specifically written for younger readers (PG-13) and those adults
still interested in young heroes.

“I’m sorry. What’s
that, Mr. Kurtz?” “Therr goonda burnittuda grrownd.” “Is that
right?” Beth still hasn’t really heard him yet. But his tone sounds
like a declaration of some kind and a reassuring ‘Is-That-Right’
usually does the trick. It suggests she’s listening, open to
learning something new. Old people like that. “All done, Mr.
Kurtz?” she asks. He looks away and waves his hand at the plate
with some kind of accompanying “Bah” straight out of Ebenezer
Scrooge. She freezes. Flushes. Almost four months at Heritage
Springs and it still makes her nervous when they get angry. Always a
jolt. Most of the time, they don’t get, well, anything. Just kinda
sit there. Waiting.

The Iliad
by Geoffrey Girard (Purun Media Publishing Company, 2007)
A retelling for middle school readers of the most famous war story ever
told:
The classic Greek tale of the Trojan War! From such legendary warriors
as Achilles and Prince Hector to the very gods of Mt. Olympus. {Written and published for Asian markets outside the U.S. Will let you know when/if a
version becomes available stateside.}
The oracle moved
carefully through the large tent. Very carefully. Who would blame him?
It was a room filled with warriors. And, it seemed, warriors in a bad mood.
Their faces, burned brown by the sun and sprinkled with old scars of battle,
looked cruel and serious as they watched him enter. He pulled his dark robes
closer, hoping to protect himself from their harsh stares. Breathed deeply
and tried to find courage for his first words. “Greetings, Great
King,” he managed. "I bring you words of Death." |
